Diary of a Kindergartner's Mom

So little Quentin is going to Kindergarten on Monday! This to me equals a good opportunity to pick up with the blogging and share it for everyone to come along on the Kindergarten journey!

After a placement test, 2 orientations (1 parents only and one for parents and students) and 1 school tour, "Kindergarten Monday" will finally arrive in two more sleeps. We've been building up for this because apparently this is no ordinary Kindergarten... this is Mason Early Childhood Center Kindergarten. What this means to Nate and I is that this is the Taj Mahal of Kindergartens. When I graduated high school there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 other kids in my class... Quentin's class size equals 700; well 690 to be exact.

The real adventure really started on Friday when Nate, Quentin and I got to tour the MECC and meet his teachers. Nate had to work the day before so he met us at the school in the morning; Quentin and I dropped Corbin off and away we went. Quentin was excited to meet his teacher, wanted to see the playground and was acting completely normal (how's that for foreshadowing) but as we pulled into the parking lot he said, "Mommy, my tummy kind of hurts" and then proceeded to puke all over my backseat. I was still hopeful the visit could be salvaged and convinced Nate to take him into the bathroom to get cleaned up while I talked to the ladies in the office. Nate did a good job cleaning him up, but then it just looked like Quentin had peed his pants, so I gave up and we headed home to get him changed. So, after waredrobe change #1 it was Kindergarten orientation take 2.

This time everything went smoothly; we got to meet his teachers, see his classroom, tour the Taj Mahal and see just where our tax dollars were going. Let me say... I'm impressed! And that's not too easy of a feat. Everything is very efficient, very nice and the staff that I have met have been amazing. My favorite thing of course is that the student teacher in Quentin's class is from Cleveland and is a fellow Browns fan... that's a big relief when you're surrounded by crazy Bengals fans!

As if coming to the realization that my baby is going to Kindergarten wasn't enough, as we were standing in the classroom looking around at things the sweetest little girl came running into the classroom, grabbed my son and gave him a huge hug then ran off to her Daddy and walked on down the hallway. I looked at Nate, looked at Quentin and said "What just happened there?" Quentin then explained to me that the little girl was Bella... his girlfriend!

So I survived a pukey Kindergarten orientation AND meeting my 5 year old's girlfriend... Wow! I'm an awesome Mom! :o)
